Mayor's Letter

Rick is a proud lifelong citizen of Halton Hills. Married to Josey and they are raising two rescued dogs, Lousha and Nyeyah. Rick was the recipient of the “Wall of Fame Recognition Award” from Humber College, a life achievement award. He is one of approximately 50 recipients to receive this prestigious award.

In 2003 Rick Bonnette was elected as Mayor for the Town of Halton Hills. He has always been an advocate for the Town of Halton Hills and has not been shy to express his views to other levels of government whether it b School boards (deeming valuable play area surplus), Regional policy that could adversely affect the farm industry, Provincial government (closing obstetrics at Georgetown Hospital, Provincial Highways etc.) Federal Governments ( not moving quick enough on responding to the U.S.A.’s Buy American policy  adversely affecting Canadian jobs and businesses in Canada).

In his three terms in office Rick Bonnette has championed many causes to protect the quality of life we enjoy in Halton Hills. In May 2008, Rick Bonnette was the recipient of a Long-Standing Service Award from the Province of Ontario in recognition of his over 25 years of dedicated service as an elected official.

He has received international recognition for campaigning for local industry in the fight for local industry in the fight for Reciprocity, Fair and Free Trade with the United States. On Canada Day edition of the Toronto Star 2009, Rick was recognized in a front page article as “The Mayor Who Stood on Guard for Thee.” In 2010, Rick launched his children’s book “The Incredible Adventures of Goon Sharron “. All proceeds from his e-book went to the Georgetown Hospital Expansion Fund. Rick volunteers by coaching Ladies Hockey. Rick believes in an Active lifestyle.

During his first term of office as Mayor, he lead the community in the “Walk the Hills” program which received accolades from the Region of Halton Healthy Living and a write up in the Toronto Star. In 2012, Rick was honoured and quite humbled to receive a Diamond Jubilee Medal .
